Today (3 September 2025), Mr. Piyasiri Wattanawarangkool, Deputy Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC); Mr. Saenphon Uwichian, Vice President of the Thailand Esports Federation; and Mr. Chaiphum Chanweerayut, President of the Yala Esports Club (representing esports clubs from the five southern border provinces), jointly held a press conference for the finals of the Southern Border Provinces Esports Competition, titled “GAMERS GALAXY SOUTHERN BORDER PROVINCES ESPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES.”

The event took place at the Southern Border Provinces Government Administration Center Building, Mueang District, Yala Province, with representatives from government agencies, officials, and athletes in attendance.

The esports competition is jointly organized by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), the Thailand Esports Federation, and esports clubs from the five southern border provinces. The finals of the Southern Border Provinces Esports Competition, titled “GAMERS GALAXY SOUTHERN BORDER PROVINCES E-SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES,” will be held at the Phra Sawet Surakchatharn Building, White Elephant Ceremony Ground, Mueang District, Yala Province, from 12–14 September 2025. The tournament offers total prize money of over 285,000 baht, along with trophies and medals.

Mr. Piyasiri Wattanawarangkool, Deputy Secretary-General of SBPAC, stated that SBPAC has sought budgetary support from central authorities, as esports is a modern sport for today’s youth. At present, many young people face issues related to excessive mobile phone and gaming use. The key question, he said, is how to turn these habits into something that can benefit their lives to the greatest extent.

SBPAC, in collaboration with the Thailand Esports Federation and esports clubs from the five southern border provinces, has therefore organized esports competitions across the region to attract tourists, raise awareness of esports, and develop competitions to meet professional standards. The initiative aims to encourage children and youth to transform their behavior from casual mobile and gaming use into pursuing esports as professional athletes, laying an important foundation for self-development and positive growth in the future.

Mr. Saenphon Uwichian, Vice President of the Thailand Esports Federation, stated that esports has gained significant popularity among young people. What is crucial for all sectors, he emphasized, is finding ways to ensure that gaming does not stand alone but goes hand in hand with education.

This led to the idea of organizing structured competitions that are recognized at the international level, with clear discipline and regulations, systematic training, athlete camps, and good physical fitness—just like other types of sports. Such an approach enables the development of competitions and the selection of representatives at the provincial and national levels, ultimately paving the way for young players to become professional esports athletes in the future.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chaiphum Chanweerayut, President of the Yala Esports Club (representing esports clubs from the five southern border provinces), revealed that SBPAC has provided valuable opportunities for youth in the southern border provinces. A large number of young people in the area showed strong interest and participated in the competition, and the selection of athletes for the tournament has already been completed.

The regional competition “GAMERS GALAXY SOUTHERN BORDER PROVINCES E-SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES”, representing the finals for the five southern border provinces, will feature three internationally recognized popular games: Arena of Valor (AOV/ROV), Street Fighter 6, and EA Sports FC Online.

At present, esports creates opportunities for youth in the five southern border provinces to access creative activities that foster career development, connect with the digital economy, and help build positive momentum through youth engagement. It also contributes to reducing social risk factors and supports the sustainable growth of the local economy.
