History of the Thailand E-Sport Federation (TESF)
Although Thai professional gamers and esports athletes have achieved success for more than a decade, earning numerous awards from both domestic and international competitions, these accomplishments were largely driven by market forces that actively promoted specific games and generated popularity. They were also the result of the aspirations of highly skilled gamers who sought to advance their careers, build personal reputations, and bring recognition to themselves and to the nation.
However, despite these achievements, Thailand had never officially participated in international esports governance or held a formal role in the executive or administrative operations of the global esports industry.
In 2013, the founding committee recognized the necessity for Thailand to establish an official national esports association, following guidance from the International eSports Federation (IESF). This step was required in order to obtain the official right to send Thai athletes to participate in all competitions organized under the IESF.
As a result, the founders submitted an application for official registration, and the Thailand E-Sport Federation was formally recognized by the Registrar of Associations of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration as a legally established association on 6 June 2013.
From its initial establishment to the present day, the Federation has devoted significant efforts to domestic and international coordination, focusing on organizational structuring, capacity building, and gaining experience in various operational aspects. At the same time, clear and systematic policies have been formulated to enhance organizational effectiveness and to support the sustainable development of esports in Thailand.
The Thailand E-Sport Federation was officially recognized as a national sports association by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT). The approval was granted by resolution of the SAT Board on 27 July 2017 and was formally endorsed by the Minister of Tourism and Sports on 17 October 2017. This official recognition enabled the Federation to register as a national sports association, after which it adopted the name Thailand E-Sport Federation.
